How to Design Your Baby's Nursery

No matter if this is your first baby or the last baby that you plan to have, this is a very exciting although sometimes daunting time in your life. There are a lot of things that you have to do in preparation for your newborn and you have fewer than nine months to get everything taken care of.

One of the things that you're probably considering is how you are going to design your baby's nursery.

Your primary consideration is, of course, safety. Beyond that you will want to think about your theme, the colors of the nursery, the type of furniture you want, and the bedding for your crib.

When you decide on your baby's furniture make sure that all the materials that are used as well as the quality of the construction meets or exceeds all safety standards.

Nurseries need a crib, a place to store the baby's clothes, and a changing table. Beyond that you could get a glider that you could use when you feed and nurture your baby.

Your crib might be finished in plastic or natural wood. It could be painted. If it is painted make sure that the paint is non toxic and lead free. Make sure to check this, especially if you've been given a pre-used crib.

Baby's clothes could be stored in an armoire or within a chest of drawers. Armoires are heavy and should be attached to the wall so that they will not tip over and fall down. The best armoires will come to your home already assembled. At the most you will have to hang the doors.

Armoires are usually made out of wood, MDF, or a combination of the two. Solid wood furniture, although more expensive, will last a lot longer.

A changing dresser is sort of like a chest of drawers that has a changing tray on top. Changing dressers are usually a better choice than just getting an open changer because once your baby is out of diapers the open changer will become rather useless.

A glider is a place where you can comfortably feed and snuggle with your baby. Gliders can be either stationary, reclining, or swiveling. Some gliders both swivel and recline. If you have a recliner you won't need an ottoman.

Washable cotton is the best fabric that you can buy for your baby's bedding. Cotton is comfortable and will allow your baby's skin to breathe. And it is practical because cotton can frequently be washed. Depending on your budget you can have you baby bedding custom made or you can buy it ready made.
