Top 10 Reasons to Recycle Plastic Bags and More

If you're unsure as to whether you should be recycling, this article should help you decide with certainty.

1. Less garbage: When you recycle there is less that winds up in the dumpster and the landfill. This is good because the landfills in our country are already rapidly filling.

2. Save Raw: Raw materials are not called for when you recycle. This saves many kinds of trees, and the animals that live in these delicate ecosystems.

3. Less energy: The production of glass, for example, is much more responsible for energy consumption than the recycling of glass.

4. Our Kids Will Thank Us: Because we are saving raw materials and the habitats of endangered species, our children and our grandchildren will be able to see what the world in which we lived was like. They won't have to live in a barren desert of globally warmed sand.

5. Greenhouse Cooling: With less energy used to make staple packs, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced. This will make the effects of global warming less visible.

6. Good for the economy: Today, the economy still isn't what it used to be. Recycling helps because it is a $236 billion a year industry. Over a million people are employed nationally.

7. Save the oceans: Right now the Pacific Ocean has a huge gyre of plastic bags and header bags, along with tons of other garbage. Don't add to it by throwing away your newspaper bags and die cut handle bags. The sea otters will thank you.

8. You'll Feel Better: Recycling plastic bags when you go to the grocery store will make you feel like you've done your part to help the earth be a better place.

Here are some more facts about how much Americans waste and what you can do to help:

-Americans have only 5% of the global population and yet we produce more than 40% of the world's waste.

-Americans use enough plastic wrap to cover all of Texas each year.

-Recycling one ton of aluminum cans generates enough energy saved to power the Average American home for ten years.

-So much paper is thrown away every year that you could build a 12 foot wall of it from New York to Los Angeles.

-We use 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. When we recycle just one ton of these plastic bottles, we save about four barrels of oil.

Recycling is the right thing to do, and you know it. You help the world in every way and there are no negatives that come from it. So recycle on, have fun, and save the planet!
