Potential Health Dangers From Rodents and Why You Need the Best Mousetraps

Nobody likes having a mouse or rat problem in their house. It's terrifying to be sleepily trudging through your dark home at night for, say, a glass of water, and you have a run in with a rat or worse, several rats. But besides being sneaky and unbelievably creepily, rats and mice can pose a serious threat to your health. They can also compromise the integrity of your property. Mice love to burrow in wood cabinets and pantries, and especially love to chew on wood furniture. They also are prone to gnaw on insulation and wiring, which can be expensive to repair. So if you haven't already started taking precautionary methods like placing the best mouse traps in and around your home, (i.e. sticky mouse traps or humane mouse traps) then you're putting your home and your health in danger.

Potential Health Issues From Rodents:

Typhus: Spread by the bites of fleas that have fed off of rodents. It shows itself with a rash and other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. It is treatable with antibiotics.

Q Fever: This infectious disease is contracted by the inhalation of dust that has been contaminated by birthing tissue and placenta of breeding mice and rats. The scariest part of this disease is that it only takes breathing in one particle to get someone sick. An infected person will develop flu-like symptoms, which may turn into complications like pneumonia and even an infection in the lining of the heart.

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS):This is a deadly disease when contracted from infected rodents. Humans can get the disease when they come into contact with infected rodents, their urine, or their droppings. It is rare, but potentially deadly, so it's best so the CDC recommends rodent control in and around the home to prevent a possible infection.

Weil's Syndrome: This disease is transmitted to humans through food and water that is contaminated with the urine of effected rodents, and can cause the infected person to have intense flu-like symptoms and can be potentially deadly if left untreated.

Plague: Plague is caused by a bacterium called Yersinia Pestis. People get plague from being bitten by rodent fleas carrying the virus or handling an infected animal. Millions died in the Middle Ages from the Plague, but modern antibiotics effective against it. However, if an infected person isn't treated promptly, the disease will cause illness or death.

All in all, rats and mice are no good. They can do damage to your home, and have the potential to make you very sick. So take preventative measures and get the best mouse traps, set the up in and around your house, and handle a small problem before it turns into a big one.
