Cool Down After You Heat Up

You've made the decision to start working out at the gym, but are trying to figure out a new routine. You are not alone. There are plenty of trial and error mistakes that you will have to work out. Which routines work for you. Figure out the routines as you move into a new health regimen.

The trick is to stay with the program long enough for you to see results.

We compiled a few tips to help support your program and maximize your success:

Remember your "cool down" periods after your workouts. Coming to an abrupt stop after an intense work out isn't the best strategy, according to many trainers. Cooling down on the other hand actually helps you recover quicker from workouts and decreases any type of muscle breakdown that may occur from the exercises.

When you skip the cool down period you cause lactic acid to build up in your muscles, which can result in unnecessary soreness. If you are sore, the last thing you want to do is going to the gym, right? Take away point: Cooling down increases your ability to continue working out throughout the week.

Here is the trick to sustaining your workout on a weekly basis: You have to reward yourself regularly! Offer yourself a small reward for the effort every day. It could be something like a bowl of fresh strawberries. For longer, sustainable workouts, even a trip to the movies during the weekend may add a little sweetness to your life. Basically, small rewards, really keep you on your workout game!

Grab a friend! Work out partners make for great support systems. Going to the local gym or park could be a lonely experience and very intimidating. But, when you try working out with a friend, life becomes easier and much more fun. Much study on the subject of partners and they suggest that if you have a workout friend or even a mentor that can keep you motivated, your chances at maintaining your level or even increase your exercise routine, increases too.

Cooling down with a friend, could be anything from walking back from the gym to doing another less intense lap in the pool to doing some last-minute stretches. The idea of the cool down is to bring your heart back to a normal level much more gradually. This also helps your mind adjust, causing you to have greater and more effective focus at your other activities.

Muscles are predictable. As you build them, you begin to feel toned and not muscular. You don't look muscular you look shapely and... desirable...if that matters to you. Cooling down also gives you an opportunity to reflect over your workout. How it felt, what part of your body you worked on, the next workout and what you will be doing. In time you will find consistent, focused effort will payoff in a big way by developing the look you are striving.

Be sure you are looking at the right magazines and getting the best information available on exercising.
