Sportbike Riding Helmets - Riders Need To Wear Them All The Time

By : Cedric Welsch

There are many kinds of riders out there, from seasonal riders to daily riders to those who just like to occasionally get out there and cruise, which is why AFX Sportbike Motorcycle Helmets come in several different styles. The style of helmet that is right for you will depend largely on the type of riding you do and what your personal preferences are.

AFX Sportbike Motorcycle Helmets can be found in many styles, including full-face, three-quarter shell and half-shell varieties. Full-face helmets, as their name implies, cover the most area on the head by completely covering the face and most of the neck. These helmets are generally preferred by city drivers, as they provide the most protection and city drivers have to deal with the most traffic and obstacles. They also usually are going on shorter rides, so they do not have to deal with one of the biggest drawbacks of the full-face helmet: the weight. Obviously, since the helmet is covering more of the head, it is going to be heavier, which can create problems for riders that are going on longer rides.

Heat and neck fatigue can be serious problems for long-range riders. The three-quarter shell helmet solves many of these problems by opening up the face area and not wrapping around in the front like a full-face does. It is usually secured in place by a chinstrap or chin cup, and can include a drop-down visor for wind resistance. These are what you would often see police officers wearing, and are also preferred by those that rack up lots of miles on their bike as they provide much of the same protection as the full-face helmet while being much more breathable and weighing less. Skullcap helmets sit on the very top of the head and are the least intrusive of all the helmets. To put it bluntly, they are the helmets for those that do not want to wear a helmet. Most states have helmet laws, however, that require the use of a helmet, so you will often see people who carry skullcaps around and only put them on when they are in one of the states that require them. They sit on the very top of the head and usually only come down to about the top of the ears, and are held in place with a chinstrap.

Motorcycle helmets are an important part of any rider's safety gear, but the type of rider you are will play a large part in your selection of the many different kinds of AFX Sportbike Motorcycle Helmets.
