Many young city-dwellers are looking for more adventure - more time exploring their world and less time in front of a computer screen and away from their smart phone. That's why so many twenty- and thirty-something city dwellers are choosing white water raft trips when booking a special getaway. It's not just a new experience, but a refreshing retreat from the stress of city life. Plus, with so many outfitters offering discounted packages and online coupons, a rafting adventure is hard to resist. Working the grind of a 9-5 can not only leave you in need of adventure, but fresh air, physical activity and new friends as well. Few activities can bring people together like a week-long rafting expedition. Many companies offer excursions for certain age groups, genders or experience levels. Some even offer trips for singles or married couples. Eco-tourism is a type of travel that revolves around exploring and learning about pristine and preserved areas with a conscious effort to travel with low-impact. Rafting trips in the Grand Canyon make for incredible eco-tourism adventures and serve as a great contrast to concrete buildings and busy streets in the city. If you're not interested in a specific niche trip, it is easy to choose your own adventure; most operators are able to design a trip with your own interests in mind because they know not everyone comes looking for Class IV rapids. But the great thing about Colorado River rafting, regardless of the people you're with, is how much territory you cover. After a thrilling day on the water, evening hikes give you a brand new view of the canyon, one that many people never see. Though it does involve a lot of activity, the relatively low physical requirement is another draw. You don't have to be an expert outdoorsman to participate in most trips. In fact, you can even select a trip where a guest simply takes in the marvelous views while guides paddle or navigate with a small motor, and evening hikes can become nature walks. Aside from the beauty and adventure, is a chance to learn about a truly unique place. Guides are extremely knowledgeable of the canyon's history, geography, geology, plants and wildlife-even its folklore. And they know the river like the back of their hands, which will make your trip both safe and open to the group's whim on the river. Many take advantage of their guide's knowledge by joining side trips for a dip in hidden waterfall pools. Whatever the adventure, enjoying hearty camp food and resting below a glittery sky at the day's end, you'll find refuge from internet scrolling and the sounds of your smart phone. And when the sun comes up, you'll feel refreshed and ready for the next adventure.
