Dysport Gaining On Botox

Dysport, a less expensive alternative to Botox, has been tried by nearly half of the regular patients of a local plastic surgeon who are normally treated with Botox injections. Many plastic surgeons report some patients prefer Dysport over Botox; others remain loyal to the results of Botox.

BOTOX was approved for cosmetic purposes by the Federal Food and Drug Administration in 2002.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reports that nearly 10 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2009. The most frequently performed non-surgial treatments were injectable fillers Dysport and Botox. The number of cosmetic surgeries and non-surgical treatments dropped simultaneously with the economy's fall in 2008, but has steadily and slowly increased throughout 2010.

Many plastic surgeons find that a lot of their patients find Dysport to be as effective as Botox and would rather take advantage of the savings. Botox treatments typically run $200-$300 per area, which is about 20-30 units) and Dysport generally costs less than that including promotional rebates of $75 now offered by Ipsen Biopharm Ltd, the manufacturer.

Because they do not require any down time and are minimally invasive, injectable fillers like Dysport are gaining popularity. These treatments are gaining notoriety as the "Lunch Hour Facelift" because they can be administered in just a number of minutes." Injectable fillers are the cosmetic treatments that will have your friends and co-workers telling you that you look great, recognizing your look has improved, but just not able to put their finger on exactly what it is about you. They may even ask if you got a haircut or lost weight.

The reason Dysport and other injectable fillers are so effective is because they restore the volume, and volume loss is what causes wrinkles. A commonly used analogy is that your face goes from a grape to a raisin as you age. When your skin restores it's natural fullness you feel younger and more refreshed. This happens with wrinkles in the glabellar (between the eyes), wrinkles in the corners of the eye, frown lines and the forehead. Another particularly effective treatment using injectable filler is to correct circles under the eye. When the volume loss occurs the skin is thinner under the eye and that is why dark circles show through. It helps these to disappear when a layer under the skin is added. Wrinkles anywhere on the face can be treated and reduced with injectable filler.

With so many reasons to use Dysport, there isn't a reason not to.
