There are many wonderful ways in which to use chipboard in your scrapbooking layouts. Put your imagination to the test and you will work some magic into your layouts using chipboard.

Believe it or not, after paper and card, chipboard is believed to be the next most common material used for scrapbooking. Chipboard has a lot going for it. As well as being sturdy, chipboard also cuts easily and has a smooth surface to decorate. Chipboard has a wonderful way of adding dimension to your scrapbooking layouts and is incredibly cheap.

Here are some of the ways in which you can use chipboard in your scrapbooking layouts.

1. You can make lettering for your layouts. You can either cut the letters yourself, or buy them precut from your craft store. Use your imagination when painting and decorating your lettering. Try putting patterned paper that is cut to size over the chipboard to complement the theme of your page.

2. Frames made of chipboard are very popular. You can use them to emphasize photographs on your layout, and the frame gives the layout more texture. There are many different shapes available in your local craft store, or you can make your own.

3. Try making puzzle shaped pieces out of the chipboard for your layout. These can also be bought ready cut from your craft store, and then all you will have to do is decorate them to suit the background of your layout.

4. Use chipboard to mat your photographs. This will give them a 3D effect and also make them stand out on your layout. Simply cut the chipboard the same size as your photographs, or a little bigger if you want to make a frame around the photograph.

5. Shapes can be cut from the chipboard to suit your layout. I saw a beautiful layout of somebody's dog, and the paw prints all over the page were made of chipboard. There was even a paw print photo frame for one of the photo's. Lovely shaped embellishments can be made with chipboard, including flowers, leaves, dots, stars, you name it.

Because chipboard is such a popular scrapbooking embellishment nowadays, you can practically buy it in any shape or size for your layout. You can even buy it with adhesive already on the bottom, and all you need to do is stick it onto your page and decorate.

So what are you waiting for? Add some chipboard to your layouts and you will be adding some extra special effects to your scrapbooking album.
