I've been doing a lot of research into the metabolism and into many of the different fat burning diets that promise quick fat burning. Lots of people are getting wise to the fact that many of the pills you could take for weight loss are ultimately going to do you more harm than good, and so, they're instead turning toward specialized diets that give you a very strict and specific regimen of food to eat over a certain period of time and promise fast weight loss. If this is you then there are a few points of concern that you need to be aware of. First, if you consider yourself overweight, then chances are you've been living on the Standard American Diet (SAD) for quite a long period of time. This means that you really should be a bit more careful. Not only is our Standard American Diet rife with unhealthy oils and fats, it has also been shown to have a big lack in minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients. This, as you can imagine, can cause a bit of a problem if you were to suddenly go on a strict diet with pretty specialized foods. What can end up happening is that because certain diets have you eat a very narrow variety of foods, you can very easily end up with a vitamin or mineral deficiency of some kind. Because most people are already borderline deficient in vitamins and minerals, going on a strict diet that promises fast weight loss can cause many unwanted side effects. One of the symptoms of vitamin deficiency is chronic fatigue. Generally your metabolism will slow, which is one of your body's defenses against vitamin and mineral deficiency. It tries to conserve what it has. So if you pair a vitamin or mineral deficiency induced slower metabolism with a diet that's very strict, you can imagine that you're sure to see some side effect come out, not the least of which can include long term fat gain. You've probably all heard the plethora of testimonials out there about people who gained back all the weight that they had lost plus a little bit more in many cases. That is because the body generally doesn't like being shocked into weight loss. Another point of concern with fast weight loss diets is that they generally do nothing to change your habits. If you go on a strict diet for a short period of time, what are you supposed to do once you get off of the diet? I'm absolutely positive that these diets all promote healthy eating habits once the diet is all said and done in order to keep off the weight that you've lost. It begs the question, why not just change your habits and diet in the first place? Consuming raw, fresh, organic vegetables and fruits during the day does quite a wonder for your overall health. Not only are you filling your diet with the vital vitamins and minerals that your body needs in order to function, but you're also filling your stomach with low calorie foods. Are you aware that some vegetables have been labeled negative calorie vegetables? That's because they actually take more calories to process than they yield to the body. Eating these as a very nutritious and healthy snack instead of the junk food can give you a pretty awesome difference in your overall health.
