Choosing a suitable shed for your gardening environment really depends on several things. First, what do you plan to use your garden shed for? What type of climate do you live in? Are you concerned about critters getting into your garden shed? Once you have an idea of appropriate materials used to build sheds under these conditions, you can decide on your suitable garden shed. If you are using your shed simply to store tools, you will want a sturdy side wall material especially if you plan to hang your tools on the walls. Sheds can be made from simple two by four wood and have nearly any type of siding added or plywood can be used to make the walls. In drier climates, wood makes the best garden shed. In wetter climates, it's a good idea to use some type of metal that is coated for rust protection. If you are planning to use your garden shed for tool storage, you'll want to create some type of tool hanger and organizer so that you can find your tools when you need them. Home improvement stores and gardening centers have organizers that you can purchase for all sizes of tools from shovels and rakes to the smaller hand tools. If you are concerned about animals getting into your shed such as squirrels and mice, you will likely want to elevate your shed slightly off the ground. Generally, a cement slab will work best for this because a wooden floor tends to weaken and break away as it ages. Also, mice and squirrels can easily chew through wood. If you are planning to store things such as seeds in your garden shed, you will definitely want to protect against critters getting into your shed. The size of the garden shed will also depend on its usage. If you are planning to spend a lot of time inside your shed, you will want to make sure you have plenty of space to move around. Therefore, you will want to make sure you build a larger garden shed. If you are only planning to use your shed for storage, you can probably make it a smaller size, depending on the amount of storage space you need. Organization is key to a garden shed. You should be able to find what you need when you need it. However, organization is only as good as the person doing the organizing. If you or others do not put things back in their places, you probably will not be able to find it later. The most suitable garden shed for your garden environment will depend greatly on what its use will be and the climate you are building it. Wooden sheds tend to fare better in drier climates whereas a metal shed will fare better in wetter climates provided it is coated for protection against rust. The decisions that will be made will rest solely on the person responsible, but the use and the climate are the two major considerations when making that decision.
