One of the best things that can be said about a family attorney is that they care about the people they represent. Each member of this professional family understands the fragile and sensitive nature involved in divorce cases, and a child support attorney will not lose sight of the individuals who suffer the most when a marriage dissolves. Most people would never consider using their children to manipulate the proceedings of a child support hearing, but in practice, it plays out that way many times. A mother worries about being able to provide for her children, and will understandably do anything she can to make certain they are well cared for. Her initial thought should be on finding the best representation she can for child support proceedings. Many men and women are so hurt and concerned with themselves during a divorce that they cannot fathom what they are doing to the children involved. The attorneys who work for the parents often realize that divorce is a life changing event for the children involved, and they resolve themselves to make the situation as congenial and painless as possible. When children are a part of the proceedings, each partner's attorney is representing his or her client plus the children. When the proper counsel is retained, children are treated with compassion and sympathy during a difficult time. A lawyer who only thinks of the one paying the fee is a poor fit for anyone involved in civil proceedings. Child support by both parents is necessary if deep scars are not going to be left from a divorce. The younger the child, the more important it is for the adults to stay involved in their children's lives. As terms are laid out for the future, the wise attorney will attempt to make provisions for both parents to contribute to the upbringing of the children, unless one of them wants to shirk their parental duties. As important as monetary support and physical shelter are, children also need to feel love and security, especially at a time when they feel their parents no longer love each other. Every father and mother needs someone to remind them constantly that their actions and words are going to have a profound effect on how the children view life into adulthood. A defining part of the attorney's job is in making sure that proper responsibility is targeted to each parent. In some cases, both parents are committed to the welfare of the children, and it is relatively easy to work out specifics, but many times the attorney is faced with one parent that must be forced into doing what is right. How this is presented to the judge can prevent, or present, problems later on. If divorce is only between two people, that are hard enough to deal with, but when children are involved the entire scenario becomes more sensitive and difficult. That is why it is so important to obtain the services of an attorney who will be concerned with everyone involved in the divorce, not just the husband and wife. After a divorce is finalized, children will still be a part of a much bigger picture.
