The Outdoor Chaise Lounge

Chaise lounges are unique types of sofas that have a backrest. The original concept for the modern day chaise lounge goes as far back as ancient Egypt. Back then it was used indoors and was essentially a combination of a day bed and a chair.

Chaise lounges evolved over the course of time and, in sixteenth century France, the first "Chaise Longue" was designed. The French word "longue" means "long chair." Still used indoors, these pieces of furniture were designed so that people could comfortably recline on their backs instead of having to rest on their sides.

There were many iterations of this type of furniture in a lot of different cultures throughout the years. But it wasn't until these "long chairs" came to the United States that they were used as outdoor furniture. And that happened because of American's love of the great outdoors.

Unmatched in looks and comfort, this furniture is perfect when you want a piece of furniture that can be used as either a chair or as a bed. Although materials used in the construction of outdoor "long chairs" may be different than those used for indoor furniture, the one thing that they all have in common is that they are extremely comfortable.

Outdoor chaise lounges can be made of traditional materials such as wood or metal. However, plastic and Polywood have become very popular options for people who want to furnish their gardens, pools, and patios with lounges. This is because they are very easy to clean and maintain.

Garden Chaise Loungues

Chaise lounges are probably the most perfect piece of furniture to put in your garden. What could be better than stretching out and listening to the sounds of Nature and enjoying her bounties?

When choosing furniture for this type of serene environment you should focus on materials that are strong and sturdy - materials that can easily resist the elements.

Poolside Chaise Lounges

Either a wooden, wicker, or steel chaise longue could be a perfect accessory for your outdoor swimming pool. Can you imagine going into the pool for a dip, then coming out, flopping down on your chaise lounge and soaking up the sun while you sip a cool drink? Life doesn't get much better than that.

Chaise Lounges for your Patio

If you like to entertain you will love adding a chaise lounge your patio's décor. And if you place two chaise lounges side by side your guests will appreciate being able to lean back while enjoying their conversation.
