Be A Good Citizen And Get Your Sewage System Updated

It's important to maintain your sewer system for several reasons. Not only will it help you save money in the long run by preventing devastating sewer backups and expensive sewer repair, but it is vital for the environment to keep your sewer working properly. If you neglect your sewer system, there is a very real possibility that the result will be a sanitary system overflow.

Sanitary system overflow occurs when untreated sewage leaks into basements, streets, water sources, and parks and playgrounds. Normally sewage is routed to a treatment facility, but during these events, it usually means the area quickly becomes contaminated with bacteria and other potential pathogens. This pollution occurs not just as isolated incidents, but rather, it happens regularly as a result of sanitary system overflow.

Waterways of various types are being polluted and rivers, bays, and beaches, threatening the health of millions of people who rely on water from these sources for their survival. These sanitary system overflows occur when precipitation in the form of rains or melted snows seep into the earth and finding their way into the neglected sewer system. If there are roots in the way or the earth has begun to shift, the sewer lines can collapse altogether.

If you haven't had your sewer looked at in a while, now is a great time to call one of your local plumbers to schedule a drain cleaning and inspection of your sewer line. It is fairly easy for drains to accumulate sludge and grease, which will reduce their efficiency. This is caused by oils and fats that get flushed down the drain, in addition to soaps, laundry detergents, and other cleaning agents.

Drain cleaning will help remove blockages and buildup in your sewer line that often leads to drain problems. If your sewer needs repair, this can be done fairly easily with trenchless pipe replacement. It can be done without creating a large amount of damage to your property. This is important especially in the event of a water leak, or in the event that tree roots are getting in the way of the line.

The tree roots often seek the moisture that accumulates on the pipe, and so they infiltrate the line and grow inside, trapping matter and causing obstructions. It is very easy for a water leak to develop in this situation, because the pipe is more likely to hold excess water, especially if it is an older sewer line. This can spell trouble for many homeowners.

All in all, being a good citizen requires you to make sure your sewer line is well-maintained so that you do not end up inadvertently causing a sanitary system overflow incident. In keeping with the Environmental Protection Agency's water cleanup campaign of 2015, it is important to contact your local plumber to find out the condition of your sewer line. Make sure your sewer line will not contribute to further pollution of the planet's vital waterways by scheduling an assessment today.
