Do not believe a word of it. Certain groups would have you buy into the idea that credit repair is a pointless exercise. These people would like to convince you that time alone will cure what ails your credit. What a sadly remiss idea. The fact of the matter is that time will not heal your wounds. If you have credit issues, an intelligent proactive credit repair effort may be the only solution. Time is Not Your Friend It is that serious. The credit bureaus, nay, the entire reporting system, from creditor to collector, to service bureaus, to the three majors themselves, is flawed. Time is not a substitute for active credit repair. The truth is that those who have had genuine derogatory events are most susceptible to systemic error. Skip the freebies and make an investment in your own life. Grab Your Red Pen Now it is time to get down to the business of credit repair. Take a deep breath, grab a red pen and prepare to spend an hour or two examining everything from your name to the accuracy of your balances. So, what are some of the things you can look out for? Accounts that you do not recognize, overstated balances, redundant collections, duplicate accounts, accounts reported as open that are closed, and anything that does not seem right. Circle them all! Credit Repair Options You have now arrived at a crossroads. The roadmap of your future is lying in front of you, probably covered with red circles! In my humble opinion, money spent on a professional service will be the best investment you could make. Should you take the DIY path, you will want to get very organized. And plan on an extended campaign. When an item is corrected, take it off your list. And when an item is verified you will need a system of re-disputing and continuing to monitor the progress. Your letters should be simple, your responses prompt, and your patience unwavering.
